Howdy! My name is Forrest Burnson. I’m an Austin-based digital marketer, journalist, writer, mediocre musician and data nerd. I am currently a Market Research Associate at Software Advice where I write research reports and blog articles revolving around enterprise resource planning and supply chain management software. Previously, I worked as a writer and researcher for Global Water Intelligence, a British trade publication that covers the water and wastewater industry. And before that, I was a fellow for the News21 program at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. I graduated with a M.A. in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in May of 2013.
A transplanted Texan, I was born in Tucson, Arizona and moved to San Antonio when I was 13, where I attended Alamo Heights High School. I attended The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and graduated in 2011 with a B.A. in political science and French studies. While at Sewanee, I was on the editorial staff for the Sewanee Purple, the university’s student-run newspaper. I’ve interned at The Texas Tribune (summer 2010), the Austin Business Journal (spring 2012), and the International Center for Journalists (summer 2012). I have also written for Techzette, Market News International, the Austin American-Statesman and Reporting Texas. I am a recipient of the Dow Jones News Fund scholarship. In my second year of graduate school, I worked for UT’s International Office as a web content writer.
Old school gumshoe journalism is my jam but I also have a penchant for analyzing data, shooting/editing video and putting together nifty visualizations and graphics.
Beyond journalism, my interests include playing guitar, electronic music production, hiking, camping, canoeing, fishing and cooking.
